my life

day to day

Erik OstermanI am a second generation Swedish American born and raised in Southern California. It’s actually quite remarkable I’ve managed to remain in Los Angeles despite the pitt-stop culture that is bred here. I am a cofounder of Interactive Path, Inc, the company behind Socialverse. My dream of above all else is financial independence — the power to do what you want and when. Until that day, I will work slavishly.

I rest behind the facade of a blonde, blue-eyed bimbo that has spent a good part of his life on computers and made it further than I dreamed. My parent’s are from Sweden; I was born in the U.S. Fortunately, I speak Swedish fluently, some Korean.

I’m a graduate of UCLA’s Applied Mathematics program and specialized in computation. The expierience is something else I’ll never forget. Being around so many gifted people is humbling, but helped me also realize that smarts aren’t the only thing important in this life—compassion and creativity are equally important. So many people in the Math department were brilliant but at the same time inept at personal relations.

Being well-rounded is a virtue I strive for daily. While trying to divorce myself from digitality will always be a lost cause, I’ve always enjoyed well-natured fun. Ever since I was a kid I’ve been fascinated by the ocean. Sailing is one of those thirlls I get. In general, I’ve always been more for one-on-one challenging sports, which is why I’ve focused on skiing. Trying to perfect form and master the bumps and powder. I guess I like the idea of challenging oneself… and ultimately only oneself to blame when ludicrously hitting a tree. Scouting shaped my life. For 9 years until I reached Eagle Scout, I was given a world full of expieriences and appreciation for sleeping under the stars. Nature is something I don’t think anyone could fully appreciate with out. Other than this I mountain bike, cannoe, swim, blade, play tennis and in general try to be outdoors.

I used to be pretty obsessed wtih search and retrieval theory and studying the Korean language. These days, however, I’ve spend more time doing things like building a remote controlled sailboat, studying Taekwondo, exploring amateur radio, and playing tennis.

use debian I’m hardcore for unix, specifically Debian, but believe that one should use whatever does the job best…
